Indoor front door mat
A front door simply isn’t complete without a good mat. An indoor front door mat adds style to your hallway or entryway and connects the outdoors with the indoors. It invites guests to wipe their feet, keeping the rest of your home clean and dry.
When you choose a custom front door mat, you can pick between an absorbent mat (to soak up moisture) or a scraper mat (to remove dirt). You decide which colour and size best fit your interior. Indoor front door mats can easily be combined with outdoor mats for optimal protection.
Outdoor front door mat
An outdoor front door mat must be able to handle heavy use. Dirt, mud, gravel, and all kinds of weather: sunshine, rain, snow, and ice. At the same time, it should match the exterior of your home. Grey or black mats often look great with grey doors and frames, but of course, the choice is yours.
Outdoor mats are always scraper mats, meaning they remove dirt but don’t absorb much moisture. That’s why it’s smart to also place an indoor mat just inside your front door, the perfect duo for a clean floor.
A custom front door mat that suits you
A doormat is just a doormat… or is it? A custom front door mat should, of course, be practical, but it can also be a stylish addition to your interior. Choose a colour that matches your décor, or go for a mat with a border for a more robust look.
If your mat lies directly on the floor and you have a PVC or resin floor, pick a mat with a backing free of plasticizers to prevent discoloration.
Recessed front door mat
A front door mat can be placed directly on the floor, or recessed into it, for instance, on the hatch of a crawl space. This is also known as a “recessed doormat” or “built-in doormat.”
If your mat is recessed into the floor, accurate measurements are crucial. If you’re a few millimetres short in height, you can place a

underneath your custom-sized mat so it sits flush with the floor.
Cleaning and maintaining your front door mat
Your front door mat doesn’t need much attention, but proper maintenance helps it last longer and keeps it effective. Regular vacuuming is enough for daily upkeep, simply include it when you vacuum your floor.
If there’s a stain, you can clean your doormat by hand using warm water and mild detergent. Some mats are even machine washable, just use detergent, not fabric softener. After cleaning, let the mat dry completely before using it again.
