Measure, cut to size, and install the doormat
To ensure that your doormat fits perfectly, it’s important to carefully take the measurements. We cut the doormat to size for you, but at home, you may want to make some small adjustments, for example, if you want pipes to go through the mat. We can help with that as well!

Measuring your space
Measuring the space for your entrance mat is the first step in the process towards your perfect custom Mattigo. We guide you in 4 steps to the right dimensions.
STEP 1
Clear the space where the Mattigo will be placed of any obstacles to measure the dimensions accurately. Determine whether the doormat will be placed in a recess in the floor, such as over a crawl space, or directly on the flat floor. If the mat will be placed on the flat floor, proceed to step 3.
STEP 2
If the doormat will be placed in the floor, for example, over the crawl space hatch, measure the depth of the recess. Also, check if the recess has right angles, as our mats are delivered with straight edges. If you’d like an absorber mat or dirt trapper mat but the recess is too deep, you can order a filler mat of 3, 6, or 10 mm.
STEP 3
Measure the length and width of the future placement area for the mat. It’s important to measure all sides of the space (for the length, measure both the left and right sides, and for the width, measure both the top and bottom). So, you will measure four times. Then, use the largest measurements to avoid getting a mat that is too small.
STEP 4
Enter the desired dimensions, and we will cut the doormat to size for you. If you want a mat with border finishing, provide the measurements including the borders. Please note, do not choose border finishing if your mat will be placed in a recess or if you still need to trim it.
Cutting out recesses or corners
If you have purchased a custom Mattigo and need to cut out a corner or another section yourself, follow these steps.
STEP 1
First, measure the section that needs to be cut out. Make sure to measure all sides of the section carefully, as the wall may not be perfectly straight.
STEP 2
Next, draw the shape of the section to be cut out on the back of the doormat. You can use a chalk pencil for this. Keep in mind that since the mat is flipped over, you need to draw the recess in reverse. Always double-check that you’ve drawn the recess in the correct spot by flipping the mat back over and placing it where it will be positioned.
STEP 3
Next, flip the doormat back over, so the back of the mat is facing up. Place the mat in a spot where you won’t damage the floor with the Mattador knife, or use a cutting-resistant board.
STEP 4
Carefully cut out the section with the Mattigo knife. Make sure the knife is sharp.
Always prioritize your safety when cutting! Cut slowly and step by step.
STEP 4
Once you’ve cut out the section, use a vacuum cleaner to clean the cut edges. Place the mat where it needs to go and check if the section has been cut correctly.
If you need to cut out more sections or corners, repeat the steps above. Always cut each individual recess one at a time!
