How’s your doormat holding up? Is it still doing its job? Can you wipe your feet without worry and keep muddy footprints off your floor? Or have you noticed that your mat isn’t quite what it used to be? That it’s starting to let you down? With our handy “is-it-time-to-replace-your-doormat” checklist, you’ll know exactly when it’s time for a new one.
It’s time to replace your doormat if:
- The fibers are so worn that the bottom of the mat is visible. Clearly, it’s been through a lot of foot traffic.
- The fibers have hardened. When this happens, they can no longer effectively absorb moisture or trap dirt.
- The mat has stains that won’t come out, no matter how many cleaning attempts you’ve made.
- Walk patterns on the mat are highly visible. These spots have been overused for wiping or walking, and they take away from your beautiful entryway.
- The mat doesn’t match your new flooring, either because the color clashes or the thickness isn’t right. You want your floor and mat to feel cohesive, right?
- The mat doesn’t have a plasticizer-free backing. It’s no longer suitable for PVC or epoxy floors, and you don’t want to risk damaging your (new) floor.
Tip from your mat buddy:
If dirt remains on the soles of your shoes even after wiping, and your mat isn’t that old, you might not need a replacement yet. A good solution could be adding an outdoor mat to handle the heavier dirt, ensuring your indoor mat doesn’t get overwhelmed.
